Choosing a domain name you will not regret in three years

Short, sayable, spellable — and the extension question, answered for an Indian business.

You will type this name on invoices, say it on the phone and print it on a card. A few minutes of thought now saves a rebrand later.

Make it sayable over the phone

The test is simple: read it aloud to someone and ask them to type it. If you have to say "with a hyphen" or "the number 4", it fails. Hyphens and digits are the two things people get wrong most often.

Shorter is better, but clarity beats brevity

Aim for under 15 characters. But a clear 18-character name beats a cryptic 8-character one — nobody remembers an abbreviation they have to decode.

.com or .in?

If your customers are in India, .in is not a compromise — it signals local presence and is usually cheaper and more available. If you sell internationally, get the .com. If you can afford both, register both and redirect one; it also stops someone else trading on your name.

Check before you commit

Search the trademark register, check the social handles are free, and search the phrase to see what already ranks for it. Discovering a trademark conflict after you have printed stationery is an expensive way to learn this.

Then protect it

Register for multiple years, turn on privacy protection (free with us), keep the registrant email current, and leave the registrar lock on.
